Welcome to a new digital fci

We at FloraCulture International felt it was time to refresh the look and feel of our 36-year-old magazine for the international floriculture industry. This is FCI’s first major redesign in nearly a decade, reflecting our belief that, like the dynamic sector we report on, adaptability is essential for survival and growth. FCI was launched at the 1990 International Flower Exhibition in Aalsmeer. Since then, the way our readers find and consume information has changed dramatically. News now arrives through websites, newsletters, social media, audio and video, so our familiar online flipbook no longer fully reflected readers’ changing habits. This redesigned edition uses a digital platform to create a cleaner, more responsive and interactive reading experience. A focused central reading column is complemented by video, animation and embedded links, helping readers explore stories in greater depth across desktop, tablet and mobile. FCI’s associate editor, Rachel Wakefield, led the redesign, developing its visual and digital approach and building the new Foleon experience. I contributed the editorial content and provided feedback throughout the process. Our long-standing working relationship and shared understanding of FCI helped us bring the project together in-house. The September–October issue focuses on sustainability in practice: the regulatory pressures reshaping horticulture, emerging technologies, changing expectations and the work being done to rebuild public trust. It considers how businesses can demonstrate genuine progress while remaining economically viable; from crop protection and carbon footprinting to certification, packaging and supply-chain responsibility. Sustainability is not a single destination or short-term response. It is a continuing process of measuring impact, making informed choices and adapting to change. We hope this new FCI makes those insights easier to find, explore and put into practice.
